It does not seem to be contagious.

These defects are caused by failure of the neural tube to close completely during fetal development.[1]There have been studies and evidence linking NTD's to folic acid deficiency. The severity of encephalocele varies, depending on the location. Currently, the only effective treatments are reparative surgeries following birth. The degree to which they can be corrected varies greatly on where and how big the encephalocele is.  less

Most cases associated with chronic alcoholism, but may also be caused by malignant tumors, pernicious vomiting of pregnancy, or other diseases. Signs are pallor; tachyardia; in some patients shock. Prevalent in males, usually onset after 30 years of age - it takes some time and effort to drink that much.  less

The tricuspid valve normally has three "flaps" or leaflets. In Ebstein's anomaly, one or two of the three leaflets are stuck to the wall of the heart and don't move normally. Often there's also a hole in the wall between the atria, the heart's two upper chambers. This hole is called an atrial septal defect or ASD. Because the tricuspid valve is malformed in Ebstein's anomaly, it often doesn't work properly and may leak. If the valve leaks, some of the blood pumped by the right ventricle goes backwards through the valve with each heartbeat.  less

Just type the name of the disease starting with the last letter of the previous disease. Do not type in the name of disease previously posted. Breifly give a description of the disease if possible

This is a game to recall facts about a particular topic (ECG). Post the facts about the topic. Restrict to one fact per post. Your new fact should not have been posted earlier. You can also correct previous posts if they are wrong, by copy-pasting it and indicating why its wrong......by manually typing the facts with your fingers, you will remember longer...learning is fun
